Most furniture makers use an inner-spring design that allows for a maximum of only 1 inch of foam padding per side to be used over a 3 inch spring unit. This doesn’t provide much comfort or support for the person sleeping on the bed.
Based on the thickness of your original mattress, we use a solid 3-4-5 inch polyurethane foam core in our construction which eliminates that uncomfortable “spring” feel as well as achieving proper support for the sleeper. OUR MATTRESS WILL COMPRESS & FIT IN YOUR SLEEPER WHERE YOUR OLD THINNER MATTRESS USED TO!
HOW TO MEASURE FOR YOUR REPLACEMENT SLEEPER SOFA MATTRESS:
1. Remove your existing mattress from the sleeper and lay it on a flat surface. Measure the HEIGHT.
2. Mesure the distance of the “inside dimension” of the FRAME from top to bottom (head to foot). this is the LENGTH.
3. Mesure the distance of the “inside dimension” of the FRAME from side to side at the center point where the frame mounts to the couch. This is the WIDTH.
4. If your frame folds twice when being closed up, order a mattress 1″ thicker than the current mattress Height. — If your fram folds three times when being closed up, order a mattress of the same thickness as the original mattress.
Dont be mistaken by other “foam mattressess” that claim to be comfortable, because not all foam is created equally.
When it comes to Polyurethane foam two things apply:
1. Density – pertains to the amount of polymer used or the foams’ weight. This is the “quality” element.
2. Load deflection – Load deflection is basically how “stiff” is the foam or how hard does it feel.
A low density foam with a high IDL (Indentation Load Deflection) will feel firm but not stay firm for long.
We use a very high density foam with an ILD of 35 that keeps its designed feel for a long time. This is a medium firm feel that appeals to the widest range of customers and allows the mattress to compress into the sofa sleeper.
